(Marietta and Byesville, Ohio, 1942-1965)
American Pottery Co. (APCo)
Farmer Cows
2 Salt Shakers
A very cute pair of salt (or salt and pepper) shakers from American Pottery Company (APCo). There are faint remnants of cold painting, which has almost completely worn off this pair. Each piece has a faint mark on the backside (literally) for A P Co. Price: $10.00.
Pair of Cornucopia Vases
Rich Yellow Design
A
lovely small pair of yellow cornucopia vases, probably made by American
Pottery (or American Bisque).
The pieces are not marked; one has a ground-down (flattened) base,
but the other has the exposed foot typical of ABCo/APCo products. Each
piece sits about 3 inches high, 4.5 wide across the top, and 6 inches
long. Both pieces are in good condition. One piece has some very small
color-spots in the glaze (original to manufacture). The other piece
has a drying crack on the inside base (not visible from outside). There
are no chips, cracks, hairlines, flakes, and very little sign of any
crazing.As
a pair, these pieces make a very pretty display! Price:
$7.50.
Gardenia Motif Vase
Great
Glaze and Colors
A
very nicely shaped vase from American Pottery Company (APCo), called
the "Gardenia
Motif Vase" with 22-24K gold trim. It shows an embossed
pink flower with dark green leaves, gold trim, and curled handles. This
vase is 6 inches high, 5 inches wide across the handles, and 2.75 inches
deep across the rim. It is in very good condition, with no chips or
cracks or fleabites. There is some dirt on the base of the interior
(from age), but otherwise it is very clean and free of crazing. The
piece is unmarked, but is shown on page 45 of the book "American
Bisque" by Mary Jane Giacomini. Interestingly, like Royal Copley,
it has runners on the base, but these have hand-written "New Brunswick
[or similar] / New Jersey 1950" and what looks like the name "Alice." Price:
$5.00.
Blue Rose Vase
Rich Blue and Green Design, 1950s
A
lovely vintage vase made by American Pottery Company of Marietta, Ohio,
circa 1950s. This is referred to as a "rose vase," and has
a pretty embossed blue rose with green leaves on either side, on a
ribbed white background. It is shown as APCO on page 149 of the Giacomini
book on "American Bisque."This
piece measures 6-3/8 inches long (across the rim), 3.25 inches deep,
and 3 inches high. It is in good condition; there is overall crazing,
more visible on the interior (where it has darkened from use), and
around the base of the piece. There are no chips or cracks. This
vase is unmarked, and has an unglazed bottom. Price: $5.00. |
