"Covered Bridge Festival"
Brown Jug with Cork,
Shoulder Handle
A wonderful piece of Americana from Parke County, Indiana, celebrating their annual "Covered Bridge Festival" (since 1957, according to their website). This large brown jug with cork and handle is incised on the front with "Covered Bridge Festival / Parke Co. Ind." much in the style of similar pieces made in the nearby Brown County. The jug is darker brown than the camera flash makes it appear.
This heavy hand-turned stoneware jug measures 6.5 inches high at the rim and 4 inches wide across the unglazed foot. It is in very good condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing, hairlines, or scratches. You'll see a dark brown spot on the lower front of the jug, which is in the glaze and original to manufacture (a touch-up spot before firing).
The base is unmarked. It has been lightly sanded (as part of the production) so the jug will sit flat. This piece has a charming, rustic, country feel that just makes you want to pick it up and uncork it! Price: $15.00. |
