Very Old (1920s) Brush-McCoy Sugar Bowl and Creamer

Excellent condition. Price: $75.00

Hand-Decorated Brush Bowl
Signed

This is a hand-decorated bowl (planter) with high relief slip painting from Brush-McCoy, dated to about 1981 (see the Sanford Guide to Brush-McCoy, page 106, item 8107, for this piece). This 8-sided pot measures about 5.5 inches wide at the rim and sits 3.5 inches high. It is in very good condition, with no flaws that I can find (a bit of dirt stain on the interior). The design of yellow flowers on a brown border is solid and nicely colored. It is definitely tan (such as the photo above), not the washed-out white of the picture below. This vintage piece has an exposed tan clay foot ring, but not maker's mark that I can see. There is an initial "RM" at the bottom edge of the design. Price: $10.00.

Brush-McCoy
Ivory Round Bowl #6

This lovely Brush-McCoy ivory-glaze round bowl measures 6.25 inches wide at the sides, and sits 2.75 inches high. It features a rich cream-white glaze with a dentate rim. This pretty piece is in very good condition. There are no cracks or chips or hairlines, but does have noticeable overall crazing; it displays nicely (see closeup photos at top for details).

This bowl has a hard-to-photograph incised mark on the bottom for "Brush / USA / 6." It is shown on page 96 of the Sanford Guide to Brush-McCoy Pottery in an ad from the 1940s-50s. Price: $9.00.

Brush-McCoy Dark Green Planter
6" Footed Vase #551

This is an ornately shaped piece of Brush pottery, with elegantly scrolled handles on a green ribbed body. This "footed vase" is a very richly dark semi-matte green glaze. It measures 5 inches high, 6.25 inches long across the handles, and 5.25 inches wide at the rim.

There are no chips, cracks, crazing, or hairlines. There is a fair amount of mineral residue around the rim and foot (needs a thorough soaking), and a bit of dirt on the interior.

This piece is unmarked, but has the typical rounded white clay feet found in much of Brush pottery. AND this specific piece is shown on page 121 of the Sanford Guide to Brush Pottery, where it is identified as shape #551 and dated to 1976. Price: $9.00.

Nicely Shaped Brush-McCoy
Gloss Green Scroll-Footed Planter

This nicely detailed Brush-McCoy green garden dish or planter measures 6-3/8 inches long, 4.5 inches wide (at the rim), and 3.75 inches high. It is glazed in a multi-hued olive green glaze, with a scrolled foot base and ribbed underside.

This is an interesting piece because there is a lot of hand-work around the rim and ends, as if the manufacturer were manually trying to fix some production flaws (see closeup photos at top, where the rim is a bit uneven and you can see the patch marks on the interior). It is in fair to good condition, with one glaze pop or flake on the end of the edge of the foot (again, see closeup photos, blue arrows). There are no other chips or cracks or crazing that I can see.

I cannot find any mark on the glazed bottom. It does have the rounded wedgy foot pads typical of Brush. Price: $7.50.
