Hickory, North Carolina (1947 until ?)

Hyalyn Mug / Stein
Buick Model "C" 1905
Mid-Century Modern North Carolina Pottery

This colorful orange and gold trimmed stein or mug from Hyalyn Pottery presents a classic shape with a glossy ivory finish. The front shows a decal design of a "Buick Model "C" 1905."

This vintage stein measures 5.25 inches high and 3.5 inches wide across the rim. The bottom has a raised underglaze mark that reads "hyalyn / 620."

The stein has no cracks, chips, or flakes. However, there is some browning (brown spots) on the interior base and side, which do not wash off (see photos).

Hyalyn Porcelain (as it was originally called) was founded in 1947 in Hickory, North Carolina. It was carried by Marshall Fields of Chicago, which is probably why I find occasional pieces. This piece makes a great addition to either your Southern pottery or your Eames-era collection. Price: $10.00.
