English Staffordshire Ware A lovely vintage decorative small nut dish or shallow bowl featuring the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. The plate is marked Old English Staffordshire Ware, with the logos for Jonroth and for Adams (made in Staffordshrie), for the National Shrine. This very pretty blue and white plate is in excellent condition. It measures 4.75 inches wide. There are no chips, cracks, flakes, hairlines, or wear marks. See photos at top (click to enlarge) for details of the marks on the back, as well as closeups of the blue transferware design. Price: $20.00. Adams

Imperial
Stone A gorgeous polychrome dinner plate in a pattern called "Eastern Star." It features a scallopped rim, brown border with orange and dark blue floral designs, and a floral center and border. This older plate measures 10-3/8 inches wide. It has six large chips around the rim. There is also fine overall crazing, and some heavier craze lines on the underside. The plate is clearly marked on the bottom with "Imperial Stone / Eastern Star / J-R," along with a red number 3723 in script. I have not been able to identify a maker or age with certainty. The few references I can find online (such as at Christie's) dates some Imperial Stone plates to the 1830s, and lists makers as John Ridgway (which might explain the J-R). The Morley & Ashworth Company is also sometimes referenced for making "Imperial Stone"; if so, their script marks would date the plate to 1877. Price: $15.00. |
