Johnson
Brothers, England: Two gorgeous rope-edged 6-3/8 inch bread and butter plate from Johnson Brothers (England mark) in a pattern called "Devonshire," with multicolor decoration on a brown base (see replacements.com item #45513). These two small plates are in fair to good condition. They have what I consider "medium" utensil marks (multiple, visible when held to the light at an angle, but not damaging the finish). One plate has a small chip under the edge of the rim (see closeup photos at top). There are no other cracks, chips, flakes, crazing, or hairlines that I can see. The colorful border of red fand yellow flowers and blue birds is rich and very intact. Both plates are stamped on the bottom with the Johnson Bros. England logo and the pattern name Devonshire. Price: $12.00.
Johnson
Brothers, England: A gorgeous vintage salad plate from Johnson Brothers in a richly colored blue and white pattern called "Castle on the Lake" (see replacements.com item 45407). I believe this pattern was made 1939 to 1970, and that this is an older piece, since there is no reference to dish washer or detergent on its mark. The plate measure 7.75 inches wide across the gadroon (rope or bradied) rim. It has some condition problems on the back, but is very clean on the front (makes a great display piece). The back side shows several small fleabites around the rim edge, but none are visible when the plate sits flat. There are also a few light utensil marks (when held to the light at an angle). This piece is marked "Castle on the Lake / Johnson Bros. / England Pat. No. 118580 / All decoration under the glaze permanent acid resisting colors / A genuine hand engraving." Price: $12.00.
Johnson
Brothers, England: A gorgeous round vegetable bowl from Johnson Brothers (Staffordshire, England) in a richly colored pattern called "Gretchen" (green). The tan bowl is decorated with a border of red and yellow flowers with green leaves. This piece measures 8-3/8 inches wide at the rim and 2.5 inches high. It is in good condition, with only medium-light utensil marks on the base. There are no chips or cracks or crazing. See replacements.com item 45645 for verification, described as 1974 - 1978. It is clearly marked on the bottom with the Johnson Bros. "Old Granite" and Gretchen marks. Price $12.00. |
