China Company Two cereal bowls from about the 1920s, made by the French China Company (later called French Saxon of Sebring, Ohio, 1900-1930), on a shape called "Martha Washington" (see item 131097 at replacements.com pattern, "blue urns, floral swags, yellow scrolls"). These gorgeous cereal bowls measure 6.25 inches wide across the 12-sided rim. One bowl is in very good condition, with little signs of use or wear. The other bowl has a small rim fleabite, and an under-rim shallow chip that has led to some browning (see photos at bottom, yellow arrows). The gold trim is fairly intact on both bowls. The bowls are marked in green with F. C. Co. / Martha Washington / A24. Price: $10.00.
A very pretty rectangular platter in a pattern called "Dolly Madison," on a multi-sided shape that I think is "Le Roi." The Le Roi shape is shown at replacements.com (pattern FC32) as being made by F.C. Co., or the French China Company of Sebring, Ohio. According to Lehner's encyclopedia of US pottery marks, French China was in business from before 1900 through 1916, when it merged with Sebring China and later became known as French Saxon China. This antique platter is 10.5 inches long and 8 inches wide. 11-3/8 inches long and 8.5 inches wide at the center. There is one big chip on the underedge of the corner rim (not visible in photo, email me if you want a photo of it). There are no other chips, cracks, hairlines, or crazing that I can see. The very hard, white glaze shows almost no signs of utensil marks or wear. The flat bottom (no foot ring) has a gold mark, which reads "Dolly Madison / 18K / Le Roi / Filigree Gold / Etched Overlay." Price: $20.00.
