George
Proctor 14
Pieces: Fourteen pieces of very lovely old Staffordshire china that I believe is made by George Proctor, in a pattern called "Ostend." I believe these are older transferware patterns with hand-applied gold trim and color decoration (1890-1940) on the black base and pink fish-scale patterns with roses.. The three plates measure 7 inches across. They are in very good condition, with very little wear or crazing, and only faint utensil marks. The cups measure 2.5 inches high and a little over 3 inches wide at the rim. Two are in very good condition. Two have very visible chips on the rim (photo below), and one of the two has some interior discoloration. The saucers are about 5-3/8 inches wide and in very good condition (no chips, cracks, or crazing). All the pieces are marked on the bottom with a crown mark and the text "Ostend / English China / G P / L." I believe this is an early George Proctor (Longton) mark. There are also various hand-written decorator marks. Price: $40.00. |

Henry
Alcock & Co. Ltd. A
lovely gold-trimmed cup and saucer, made by Henry Alcock and Co. Ltd.,
of Cobridge (Staffordshire), England. The mark indicates the pieces date
to about 1891 to 1910. Both cup and saucer are decorated with heavy gold trim. There is a lovely green border of clover, highlighted with red flowers. The saucer measures 6 inches wide. It is in fair to good condition. The trim and border are very intact. There is heavy but fine overall crazing (no chips or cracks). There is some very faint browning (heavier on the underside). The cup measures 2.25 inches high and 3.75 inches wide at the rim. It is in good condition, with intact trim and handle. There are a couple of small brown spots on the bottom (visible in the photo, below right). The saucer has a detailed mark (photo below) that reads: "Semi-Porcelain / Henry Alcock & Co. Ltd. / Cobridge / England." Price: $24.00.
F.
Winkle & Co. Ltd. This is a lovely square luncheon plate from F. Winkle & Co. Ltd. of England, in a pattern called "Old English." It has a great yellow rim, with a colorful floral bouquet in the center, and embossed handles with gold trim on two sides. I believe the mark (Whieldon Ware) was used between 1911 and 1925. This plate measures 10.25 inches wide from handle to handle, and 9-1/8 inches wide at the center. It is in very good to excellent condition, with no chips or cracks or other structural flaws. There are only the faintest hints of utensil marks, and no crazing. The gold trim is very solid and intact. This lovely plate is clearly stamped on the bottom with several marks. First is the printed "Whieldon Ware" in a circle, with "Old English" (the pattern name) in a banner. Below that is "F. Winkle and Co. Ltd. / England" (the Ltd. designation dates the plates to 1911-25). Price: $25.00. Mintons
China A wonderfully shaped cup and saucer from Mintons China, with a thick gold border and gold verge, gold trim around the rim, foot, and elaborate handle, on a cream body with white in the center. This pattern is shown as item 53339, pattern H1908, at replacements, dated to circa 1908, and described as "gold encrusted band, no decals." Both the cup and saucer are in very good condition, with no chips or cracks or crazing, and almost no sign of use or wear. The cup measures 4-1/8 inches wide at the rim and sits a tad over 2 inches high. The saucer is 5-5/8 inches wide. Both pieces are marked with the crown and globe in a wreath, "Mintons / England / Burley & Co. / Chicago." There are also red handwritten numbers, which I assume are decorator marks. Price: $15.00. |
